Good morning,
As I am swept into the throne room, reading this Psalm today brings me to humble.
Beautiful One: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONPlqLTRBI0″
Psalm 97
1THE LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles and coastlands be glad!
2Clouds and darkness are round about Him [as at Sinai]; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
3Fire goes before Him and burns up His adversaries round about.
4His lightnings illumine the world; the earth sees and trembles.
5The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
6The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory.
7Let all those be put to shame who serve graven images, who boast in idols. Fall prostrate before Him, all you gods.
8Zion heard and was glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoiced [in relief] because of Your judgments, O Lord.
9For You, Lord, are high above all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods.
10O you who love the Lord, hate evil; He preserves the lives of His saints (the children of God), He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.
11Light is sown for the [uncompromisingly] righteous and strewn along their pathway, and joy for the upright in heart [the irrepressible joy which comes from consciousness of His favor and protection].
12Rejoice in the Lord, you [consistently] righteous (upright and in right standing with God), and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.
I love this whole Psalm. The images are breathtaking! Again, we see a Psalm where the Lord is Creator God, Powerful God. There is a quote from Charles Spurgeon that comes to mind:
“If God cares for you, why need you care too? Can you trust him for your soul, and not for your body? He has never refused to bear your burdens; he has never fainted under their weight. Come, then, soul! Have done with fretful care, and leave all thy concerns in the hand of a gracious God.”
“The hand of the Lord may also be felt in another manner strengthening the soul and lifting the spirit upward towards eternal things,” says Charles Spurgeon.
“O that I may in this sense feel the Lord dealing with me! A sense of the divine presence and indwelling bears the soul towards heaven as upon the wings of eagles. At such times we are full to the brim with spiritual joy, and forget the cares and sorrows of earth.”
My heart was heavy last night! So heavy with the concerns the day brought, for my son whom we continue to search for answers. For my eldest, who struggles to cope with the day to day of unknown with his brother. For a time of prayer so deep with other women, I had trouble leaving and yet, I ran! My heart was so raw and so open. Exhaustion fell over me like a blanket. And then (you knew that was coming!) we went to the library and I picked out a Mandisa album. And we played this song LOUD:
1 Peter 5: 6Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you,
7Casting the [c]whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, [d]once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you [e]watchfully.
8Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [[f]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
Can i get an amen? We serve a mighty God. We may not know the future but God sure does. And to rest in Him…one more song and I gotta start my day with my hand in His..;)
