Good morning, beloved,
Yesterday was a migraine day..so writing was not possible. Yet, great fruit came from that day. My boy prayed for me. He asked me if he could pray for me. 🙂
The migraine was all worth it.
Sounds strange, doesn’t it? Yet, I have wanted so much for my boy to pray from his heart. Not to be afraid or wonder if he sounds okay to God but to pray from his sweet, sincere heart. And last night, he was moved. And this morning? Migraine gone. Can’t wait to tell him.
5And you shall love the Lord your God with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being and with all your might.
6And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be [first] in your [own] minds and hearts; [then]
7You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
8And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets (forehead bands) between your eyes.
We’ve talked about the first two verses here..but verse 7…
A book caught my eye this morning as I began working on this blog (before I opened biblegateway..) Praying the Scriptures for your Children was a book given to me a long time ago..and I pray this over my family today and I pray it over you reader..
Let Your beloved’s heart be good soil, that he might hear Your Word, retain it, and persevere to produce a crop of godly character and effectiveness for your kingdom. Don’t let Satan snatch Your Word from Your beloved’s heart, and don’t let the worries, riches, or pleasures of this life choke Your Word and make it unfruitful in his/her life. Let his/her roots go down deep, so he can stand firm in times of testing. (Luke 8:11-15 pg. 40)
Coming back to the verses..
You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children,
Whet.. to whet, sharpen, to sharpen, teach (incisively) yet also there is more..
to inculcate (yeah, I didn’t remember what that meant either..) Instill (an attitude, idea, or habit) by persistent instruction
Children..it is important to realize that God did not mean just your own children, but your grandchildren, children around you, in your life, we have a responsibility to “impress” the words of God on the next generation. Here is the actual definition: son, grandson, child, member of a group: son, male child, grandson, children (pl. – male and female)
shall talk of them when you sit in your house…
Talk.. to speak, declare, converse, command, promise, warn, threaten, sing.
As parents, grandparents, family members, we speak, we sing, we warn our children to remember God’s Word, to live in God’s Word. God is specifically calling US to disciple our children in our homes while we are sitting..
when you walk by the way…
when you lie down…
when you rise up…
What does that leave us? When do we not talk about God and His Word?
Pray on, friends. Talk about Him. Bless those around you with His Word. It is your life.
