One of my favorite smells, leaf burning. Joshua was outside burning the branches this past weekend and neighbors around us were burning leaves. The reemergence of warm weather brought us all out to enjoy the beauty of the day and all it afford us.
Saturday also brought news. News that each one of us in this nation responded to and had reaction. My response and your response may be different, but we are called to something high.
“But thanks be to God, who always puts us on display in Christ and through us spreads the aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For to God we are the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To some we are an aroma of death leading to death, but to others, an aroma of life leading to life. And who is competent for this? For we are not like the many who market God’s message for profit. On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as from God and before God.”
2 Corinthians 2:14-17 HCSB
Let’s take this passage together.
1. We give thanks to God, why? He gives us a platform, always. If we are his, we have a platform. My daughter has a candle in her room and I’m not a huge fan. I walked in and bam, I could smell it. The aroma spread quickly to every place. Think of your platform as every place you go.
2. We are the fragrance of Christ to God to those being saved and those who are perishing. This convicts me and slaps me. Everywhere I am, the grocery store, social media, home, I am the fragrance of Christ. I do not know the heart of man around me. It is not my place to judge the heart of man, my place to be a pleasing aroma to my Jesus.
3. My words have power when I claim Christ as my King. So to some we are the aroma of death leading to death, and some leading to life. What message do I display with my words, with my actions? How will I display Christ as the weeks unfold?
Let us be a sweet aroma, friends. They may hate us for his love, his mercy and his truth, but may it be that it is his words we are speaking.
