Good morning prayer warriors!
Well, I’m a little amused b/c I ended yesterdays commentary (LOL) with the verses for today.
Attitude. Focus…on Philippians 2:5-7Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:] 6Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [[b]possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not [c]think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped [d]or retained, 7But stripped Himself [of all privileges and [e]rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being.
Okay, what does Paul mean by attitude? I mean, we in our day and age certainly have our definitions of this word. “He has such an attitude.” Hopefully, you get my drift. What is important here is context. Understanding the Greek word here adds so much to our understanding of the passage.
Attitude: Some habit of thought (expressed by deeds) that exists in one…or even more..
1) to direct one’s mind to a thing, to seek, to strive for
a) to seek one’s interest or advantage
b) to be of one’s party, side with him (in public affairs)
So, to begin, a habit of thought, direct our minds, to seek, which is shown to all by deeds, as Jesus. Which made me think of..As a man thinketh which comes from Proverbs 23:7 7For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. As one who reckons, he says to you, eat and drink, yet his heart is not with you [but is grudging the cost]. (…and purpose and [humble] mind) is part of the Amplified Bible’s version and I think it further fleshes out for us what pPaul means by attitude. I love this version for this very reason…
Last night I picked up the book by Max Lucado, Just Like Jesus. And if you haven’t read this book, what an example for us to help us understand what it means to be like Jesus. Also two books by Ann Spangler..Sitting At the Feet of Rabbi Jesus and Praying the Names of Jesus have both been instrumental in my understanding and love of the Savior.
v.6 Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [[b]possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not [c]think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped [d]or retained,
So if we are seeking to be more like Jesus in our attitude that directly affects our behavior then check this verse out!! Paul lays it out. Just so you know, people, He is God. He was God and lets just make that really, really clear. Yet, since you are getting to know the fact that I love, love, love to support it with other Scripture. I give you…:)
Isaiah 9:For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace.
7Of the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from the [latter] time forth, even forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
John 1: 1IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word ([a]Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God [b]Himself.
2He was present originally with God.
3All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.
2Corinthians 4:4For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.
Hebres 1:3He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the [c]out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished our cleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high,
How about it? Does this not just make ya want to burst out? Well, ok to carry on…I wonder if anyone is still with me, Bueller? Bueller? 😉
