Today
Holy Week Timeline. I’ve shared this before. I’ll link it here. https://www.biblegateway.com/blog/2015/03/bible-gateway-holy-week-infographic-published-in-newsweek/ This is an incredible timeline of this week. If you have a moment, take some time to look.
Here’s what was happening today:
12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. 13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ [c]den.”
What I’m studying:
God is our refuge and strength,
[b]A very present help in [c]trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the [d]sea;
3 Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. [e]Selah.
God is our shelter, our refuge, our strength. He is here. He is present. He is with us in trouble. The Psalmist begins this with truth. Know this truth. Cling to this truth.
Therefore, henceforth, consequently, accordingly-do you see the kind of word “therefore” is? (Horrible grammar) Since God is all those things, WE will not fear. We are not going to shake and quake and tremor.
All around us the world may fall apart. Earth, mountains, waters, everything may change. GOD will not. God will be our strength and refuge. Notice this. When you look to the mountains, do they not appear to be solid and full of strength? Isn’t it interesting that the Psalmist blows that theory sky high? Trust NOTHING, but Him.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
The holy dwelling places of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved;
God will help her [f]when morning dawns.
6 The [g]nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered;
He [h]raised His voice, the earth melted.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.
When God is in the midst, when God is moving, we are not moved. We are steadfast. We can run to the Lord of hosts for refuge. He is our stronghold. He will be our help. He will never leave us.
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
[i]Who has wrought desolations in the earth.
9 He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariots with fire.
The Psalmist reminds his readers of the countless times the Lord has fought on behalf of His people. He is truly the Lord of hosts.
“[j]Cease striving and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the [k]nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.
Be still. Be quiet. Stop worrying. Striving. Be still. Know the truth. Know God is God. He is Lord over all. God is with us. He is our stronghold. No matter what we face today, we do not face it alone. There is always hope.
My Prayer Focus Today
Still reading Priscilla Shirer’s book, “Fervent” and I know this will probably shock you, today and this week, the focus has been on My Fears.
19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a [h]sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;
I have been slaying fears this past week. And one of them is setting forth and opening this blog back up again. I lay it before the Lord as an offering. We have confidence. Not in ourselves, we have confidence in HIM. We have confidence that He has made us clean. Lord, we hold fast to you with hope. Thank you for being so faithful to us. Fill us with your hope today.
All my love,
Cara
