My thoughts are jumbled this morning, my mind is heavy with thoughts of loved ones hurting. Sick. Mourning the loss of a loved one. There is life before and life forthcoming. People taken too soon, in my opinion. Time spent with family, realizing how precious is each time we have. I find myself this morning, looking up verses on waiting. Reminding myself of the truth I have in front of me. If I could write a note to each person that holds space in grief, i think this is what i would say.
“Guard my soul and rescue me; Do not let me be ashamed or disappointed, For I have taken refuge in You. Let integrity and uprightness protect me, For I wait [expectantly] for You.”
Psalms 25:20-21 AMP

To you, my friend, in grief, I pray that you would know God’s protection and rescue. That you would know trust, peace, rather than being crushed by disappointment. I pray that you have taken refuge in our God. May you know God’s presence here, in this moment, and the moments to come. Fall into his arms. Keep circling your thoughts back to the only true refuge that can be found.
“I would have despaired had I not believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait for and confidently expect the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for and confidently expect the Lord.”
Psalms 27:13-14 AMP

Despair can be like a hound nipping at your heels. How can anything be good without your loved one? How can God be good here, now? This is the time of waiting. Waiting to know the healing of your heart does not mean brand new, it means there will be scars. Yet, in this grief, I pray that you can wait with confidence. I pray that your heart can find new strength and courage. We only need take the next step. And then the next.
“Be still before the Lord; wait patiently for Him and entrust yourself to Him; Do not fret (whine, agonize) because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. Cease from anger and abandon wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evil. For those who do evil will be cut off, But those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land.”
Psalms 37:7-9 AMP

Time with the Lord is now a little different. He asks you to be still. Allow his truth to be your comfort. Entrust yourself to him. Questions that come to mind? Anger that chases it’s tail in your mind, lay it before the Lord. This is a time of waiting. Declaring truth when our hearts hurt so much. The loss feels so great. The desire to pick up a phone and talk. Or walk in the next room and sit. Text fun news.
The Lord holds all of this. He will not fail you. Know that you have community around you praying. Supporting. Uplifting. May we do well to speak truth with love at all times. May your community love you well. I pray against aggravation with those whose words cause pain. I pray for wisdom in each step.
“I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry. He brought me up out of a horrible pit [of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock, steadying my footsteps and establishing my path. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear [with great reverence] And will trust confidently in the Lord.”
Psalms 40:1-3 AMP

He hears our cries. He brings you up. He sets your feet on a rock. He steadies you. He establishes your path. You need only walk on it. Songs will come from you again. May the words of praise fill your mind, even as it is a broken hallelujah. People are watching you and their feet are strengthened. Their hope is buoyed. Now, I don’t say that to pressure. You just keep on lifting your head. Allow the Lord to be your shepherd. He will carry you.
Much love.
