I started today with a walk. I have a busy day ahead of me and wanted to get my exercise done and out of the way. Walking in the dark is not my favorite activity, but with Starburst by my side and Joshua’s bright vest…I’m good.
I listened to a curated list of Scripture this morning on the Dwell app. I loved thinking about clothing in this way and wanted to share some of my findings with you.
“I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has covered me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom puts on a turban, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, And as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, So the Lord God will [most certainly] cause righteousness and justice and praise To spring up before all the nations [through the power of His word].”
Isaiah 61:10-11 AMP

I am clothed with the garments of salvation, deliverance. I am given a robe of righteousness. As I put clothing on my body, I can remember this. I can remember I am delivered. I am saved.
““Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow [seed] nor reap [the harvest] nor gather [the crops] into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by worrying can add one hour to [the length of] his life? And why are you worried about clothes? See how the lilies and wildflowers of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin [wool to make clothing], yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory and splendor dressed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive and green today and tomorrow is [cut and] thrown [as fuel] into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Therefore do not worry or be anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted), saying, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ For the [pagan] Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; [but do not worry,] for your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.”

First, let me put this aside. This is not Jesus shaming his followers for being afraid and for being human. He’s not saying, give me a break guys. Why are you such babies? no. This passage is a gift for this one right here.
Just as the passage in Isaiah spoke of robes and such. This passage is meant as a reminder. When you see the birds, remember these words I give you. If God cares for his little birds, will he not care for you? Remember this when the lies threaten to overwhelm. Look to the birds.
When you see the wildflowers of the field, recall these words. they are so beautiful. So royal. So majestic. Yet, God cares for you so much more. God is asking us to remember.
Just think of the first time, humans wore clothes. Death was involved. Adam and Eve were clothed with the skins of animals. God clothed them. God cared for this need, even after these two brought sin and death into his perfect creation.
So, when i think of clothes today..i want to reform my thinking patterns. When I see clothes, may i remember, he cares for me.
