I have a favorite horse. His name is Goliath. Daniel thinks he’s lazy and stubborn. Ella thinks he cuts corners so he doesn’t need to work as hard. After a few, very hard days and weeks, I leaned on Goliath and wept. And you know, the stubborn, lazy horse stood there, every once in a while turning his head to comfort. He was muddy and sweaty after a ride, but honestly to just stand there and mourn with this horse, calmed me.
With this horse. I’ve read and been told that horses sense our emotions. That they respond and understand. This just gets me thinking. Obviously, not all of us have access to horses or WANT access to horses. I am reminded of my Advocate. I am reminded that God knows me.
We serve an amazing God who knows what we need before we even ask. Matthew 6:8 He stands with me always. He is my comfort. And sometimes that comfort comes in the form of a beautiful, stubborn, lazy horse on which to lean. To me, Goliath was compassion. He was there.
Today is St Patrick’s Day. I’m sure you have heard this prayer before, but today is an amazing day to share it. May it bless you today.
Saint Patrick’s Breastplate
I arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.
I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me;
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s hosts to save me
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a multitude.
Christ shield me today
Against wounding
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through the mighty strength
Of the Lord of creation.
Amen. Walk in the truth of God’s word today.
