We all are coping with the latest news that rolls in each day differently. Every time we pick up our phones, the texts, the emails, the updates change much of our lives from moment to moment.
I opened my journal today and it flopped to a previous page and I knew what I was writing about today. Birds and lilies. I know I have before. I think Jesus was pretty brilliant when he did this. He gave us pictures to remind us. I’m getting ahead of myself. I’m referring to Matthew 6:25-34.
Do not be worried, Jesus says about…
- your life
- what you eat
- what you drink
- what you put on your body, clothing
- tomorrow
Instead, he asks some questions.
- Is life not more than food?
- Is the body not more than clothes?
- if God so clothes the grass (completely temporary, my edit), will he not clothe you?
Then gives us word pictures that will hold us.
- Birds of the air- no sowing, no reaping, no gathering, and YET, our Heavenly Father feeds them.
- Lilies of the field- no toiling, no spinning, and YET, not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like this.
Instead, our minds need to train on this:
Know. Know that your Heavenly Father knows you need all these things. So seek first his kingdom, his righteousness and all will be added to you. Trust.
We have birds. We have flowers. We have songs. We have sunshine to remind us: he is faithful. You are in his hands. I am in his hands. Its okay to put the phone down. Its okay to just breathe and stand outside and watch the birds.
Come to the word of God. Allow his promises to be your guide.
Peace.
