Good morning, as I walked this morning the world was so quiet. So peaceful. No sounds. Nobody awake. And as I looked up, I saw a beautiful full moon, cascading its rays across a frosty ground. The white light was brilliant and stunning. Yet, clouds covered most of the stars. It was so amazing. Going out early to walk the dog, I am reminded of the peace offered by Jesus that is available all day long. The quiet I felt outside is a quiet He longs to bring to each one of our souls and emotions. All we to do is but ask.
There is a hymn that was my Grandma’s favorite that I would share with you now..whether you are a hymn lover or not, the words are the longing of my heart. Are they yours?
In the Garden
I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses,
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
Refrain:
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.
He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.
I’d stay in the garden with Him,
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.
And here is Brad Paisley’s version..:) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM_nEZbIISc (sorry, a favorite of mine LOL)
Okay, I have digressed…the focus today!! Our emotions..for those of you reading the entire time with me, we’ve covered emotions as our heart and soul are the seat of emotions. Aren’t they, but this set of verses bids us come to lift up our spouses and quite honestly, I’ve also been convicted to pray this over me and my family. I think I’ve mentioned that…I actually am going to give you the verses surrounding the focus verse as well..which is in bold. In italics behind the words are the Vine’s dictionary to further help us understand Paul’s use of the Greek.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
3For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare (used in the Middle Voice, “to make war” (from stratos, “an encamped army”), is translated “to war” in 2Cr 10:3; metaphorically, of spiritual “conflict,”) according to the flesh ( the flesh, denotes mere human nature, the earthly nature of man apart from divine influence, and therefore prone to sin and opposed to God) and using mere human weapons.(the “armor” of light, Rom 13:12; the “armor” of righteousness, 2Cr 6:7; the weapons of the Christian’s warfare, 2Cr 10:4.)
4For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds,(“a stronghold, fortress” (akin to ochuroo, “to make firm”), is used metaphorically in 2Cr 10:4, of those things in which mere human confidence is imposed.)
5[Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing (“a stronghold, fortress” (akin to ochuroo, “to make firm”), is used metaphorically in 2Cr 10:4, of those things in which mere human confidence is imposed.) that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought (denotes “thought, that which is thought out” (cp. noeo, “to understand”); hence, “a purpose, device;” translated “devices” in 2Cr 2:11; “minds” in 2Cr 3:14; 4:4; 11:3; in 2Cr 10:5, “thought;” in Phl 4:7, AV, “minds,” RV, “thoughts”
See MIND, THOUGHT. )and purpose away captive (denotes either “to lead away captive,” Luk 21:24, or “to subjugate, to bring under control,” said of the effect of the Law in one’s members in bringing the person into captivity under the law of sin, Rom 7:23; or of subjugating the thoughts to the obedience of Christ, 2Cr 10:5;)into the obedience ( obedience rendered to apostle’s counsels, an obedience shown in observing the requirements of Christianity)of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),
Be encouraged! As you pray and lift up your spouse, family, friends with these verses you are not ever praying in vain! You are in battle. And it is so worth everything to pray on. The Lord loves you and His mercies are new every morning.
