Take this world and give me Jesus…
Yep, I’m excited to share what I’m learning today, before I dig in: One MORE song..
7Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have love, pity, and mercy for him, and to our God, for He will multiply to him His abundant pardon.
8For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord.
9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
Before you run past the first verse here, I am convicted to say..I am wicked. I am. My flesh is wicked. We get ideas in our mind and say..oh, that word is for people who murder, steal..whatever. We have set up a list of guidelines as to how bad is your sin. Really? Let me remind myself first. God doesn’t.
Isaiah 64:6 We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.
So, before you rush past this, deal with your sin with your loving Savior whose blood was spilled on your behalf. (Pause, and calmly think on that..) Lord what are the sins in my life that I am hiding, or sugar coating?
Yesterday, I was compelled to seek the forgiveness of a friend and there was healing in our relationship. I cannot take back what happened. Yet, I wounded and the Lord prompted. Like a onion, God keeps peeling back..and it’s painful. Yet, He then can bring me to new heights in His love and mercy. I’m loving God.
Here’s the definition for Wicked…wicked, criminal, guilty one, one guilty of crime (subst), wicked (hostile to God), wicked, guilty of sin (against God or man)
Now, as I studied this next word, things just clicked for me! I love God.
So forsake, the word is fascinating. It means to depart, leave behind, abandon..but a more thorough look, tells us that this word has a dual meaning. To forsake but then also to loosen the bonds of a beast, to let a beast go of its bond. Now as I looked at this further..hopefully it will make sense, I realized that what the Lord may be saying here..
Forsake your sins, let them go and then the bonds of sin will forsake you. Your sins will be forgiven and you will be free. Sin brings chains. God is asking us to abandon the sin and walk towards freedom. Amen!
He will have compassion…to be soft, primary idea here is cherishing, soothing and in a gentle emotion of the mind. Can you grasp this even in a small measure? When I am racked with sin, God longs for me to forsake my bonds, run to Him and He will be a soft place to land, cherishing and soothing me with His words and His love.
And He will pardon EXCEEDINGLY, the word, pardon..to forgive. Yet the primary idea is a lifting up, a lightness.
So this whole verse chains being broken, lives set free and hearts wide open. Right? How amazing is this verse!
My thoughts are not your thoughts…when we have trouble forgiving, letting go..when we keep reliving our sin or the sins of others committed against us, I think in our minds we say, this must be God’s feelings too. And I know for a fact that this is a lie from the pit. This is why He says this! His ways are NOT our ways…
He is higher. He is greater. He is more than enough.
