A new day. I wake up thinking about what I went to sleep pondering. California. On my mind, a complete lock down, drastic measures, which leads my mind to think of my friend and her family in California. Family I have in California. Whatever you may think of COVID-19, please be in prayer for the people.
This leads me to think and pray for us here in Illinois. My friend, whose son is about to have chemotherapy, pleading for people to quarantine if for no other sake than her son. The elderly heart patients I call at the office daily, home and quarantined. Friends who are immune-compromised. Friends with family members who are hurting, suffering, in nursing homes, in hospitals. Friends who are trying to find a way home with places closing. The news conferences with updates constantly changing, moving, never sure what the next step will be.
SO, I take a deep breath and sit in my chair, I drink my coffee and realize what I can control. What I can do. I start here.
Psalm 311 O Lord, I have come to you for protection;
don’t let me be disgraced.
Save me, for you do what is right.
2 Turn your ear to listen to me;
rescue me quickly.
Be my rock of protection,
a fortress where I will be safe.
I offer his word back to him as prayer. I ask him for protection, not only for my family, but my friends, and for you, my reader. Save us, we know you do what is right, Lord Jesus. We can be confident that he does what is right. We can be confident he see and hears us. We can be confident he is our rock. He is our fortress. No matter what you see, trust, you are safe. Gosh, even as I type that, I get a bit nervous. Lord, help me, I trust you!
3 You are my rock and my fortress.
For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.
4 Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me,
for I find protection in you alone.
5 I entrust my spirit into your hand.
Rescue me, Lord, for you are a faithful God.
So proclaim his name over your stuff today. Proclaim it over the fear. Over joy. Over the pain. Whatever. Ask him to lead you out. Don’t listen to the lies in your head today. Stay in today. Stay in this moment. Entrust.
Entrust. What a beautiful word. Let’s leave our frustration. So if we are with people in quarantine and they may be frustrating us a bit, or if we are alone and we are frustrating ourselves a bit. Let us set it aside and entrust. Allow the Lord to rescue.
Remind yourself today he is faithful. So, worship. Pray. Pray for others, for our nation, for our world. Get out and take a walk. Breathe. Memorize his word.
Today is all we have, let us rejoice and be glad.
Peace.
