Today started quite early with our dinner headed into the smoker for hours on end. Back and forth, my husband and son got the smoker ready and now, how would you say it? It is smoking. Luke decided he wanted to plan a nice dinner for his dad. Not out of duty, out of love.
When I started to think about what to write today, I decided to honor my Everlasting Father. A friend mentioned recently how the name Father holds many issues because of her relationship with her father. It’s hard to look at God as her Heavenly Father when her own dad was such a poor example. So, as I begin looking at more cross references from Isaiah 9, i start with his name. Everlasting Father. Why? Knowledge of God through his word changes us.
- Isaiah 8:18 “Here I am with the children the LORD has given me to be signs and wonders in Israel from the LORD of Armies who dwells on Mount Zion.”
- Isaiah 53:10 “Yet the LORD was pleased to crush [Jesus] severely. When you (LORD) make him (Jesus) a guilt offering, he(LORD) will see his seed, he(LORD) will prolong his(Jesus) days, and by his hand, the LORD’s pleasure will be accomplished.”
- Proverbs 8:23 “I was formed before ancient times, from the beginning, before the earth began.”
- Hebrews 2:13-15“Again, I will trust in him. And again, Here I am with the children God gave me. Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through his death he might destroy the one holding the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death.”
Today, I need a letter. Truth is, I have a letter, I have a word. I have his word laid out before me. Today I need the reminder that my Heavenly Father sees me here. Hurting and struggling, church isn’t happening today. I feel. i hurt. And I get overwhelmed. So, what do i do with the truths I have just written out?
I remember.
- I am his child. He is over all I know and even more, He is over all I don’t.
- I look to the LORD of armies to fight for me today, when I am weak.
- Jesus. Just say his name. He is the one who sacrificed himself for me. For you. Broken things are healed and made whole.
- Jesus, crushed. Brings me healing. Healing over my mind and heart. I may not be healed yet, there’s a day coming. Pain free, i will see his hands and side. His suffering on my behalf. Thank you, Jesus
- Eternal Father. He has seen it all. My God is over all, past, present and future. The Ancient One. The Alpha and Omega. The beginning and the end all in his hands.
- I acknowledge he is trustworthy with my story. Your story.
- Jesus shared our humanity and did not sin. Did not fall. He knows my pain and he understands and weeps with me. I am not alone.
- Jesus destroyed the power of death. Devil. Destroyed.
- I am free. Chains are gone. I trust in who God is today.
