Good morning, beloved,
Well, times being as they are, ahem, I spent a little more time looking for my picture today than I should. I had no idea that there was controversy surrounding what side of the “bank” of the Jordan river Jesus was baptized on. I just wanted a picture. Then I got wrapped up in building projects for “Jesus sites” and goodness, all so people will come see where Jesus “maybe” was baptized on this side or that side. I’m sure I’m making light of a very serious situation, but I guess, bottom line, people, are we not getting away from the real reason Jesus came? If the side of the bank of the Jordan was a big deal, would not the authors of the gospels shed light on this riveting topic? (I’m sure I’ve lost most of my audience by now…)
I can’t help myself…
Paul kept pointing his beloved Timothy back to the one and only truth. Not to get sidelined by the folly of man but to remain firm, encouraging his young disciple to keep his eyes focused on God…
1 Timothy 2
3For such [praying] is good and right, and [it is] pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior,
4Who wishes all men to be saved and [increasingly] to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the [divine] Truth.
5For there [is only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
6Who gave Himself as a ransom for all [people, a fact that was] attested to at the right and proper time.
Sometimes I just have to marvel at Paul’s understanding and wisdom of the Scripture but then again I shouldn’t be surprised as this was customary of a Rabbi or even a Jew quite honestly to have an understanding of the Scriptures (a.k.a., divine Truth). Allow me to share some Scriptures to flesh out what Paul just said (which, by the way, would have been evident to Timothy and his reader…)
Isaiah 45:22 “Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.
Isaiah 49: It is too small a thing for you to be my servant
to restore the tribes of Jacob
and bring back those of Israel I have kept.
I will also make you a light for the Gentiles,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
Isaiah 53: 11He shall see [the fruit] of the travail of His soul and be satisfied; by His knowledge of Himself [which He possesses and imparts to others] shall My [uncompromisingly] righteous One, My Servant, justify many and make many righteous (upright and in right standing with God), for He shall bear their iniquities and their guilt [with the consequences, says the Lord].
Habakkuk 2 14But [the time is coming when] the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Oh, beloved, know that He has planned that you know Him! That you run with Him. Hold onto His hand. (He already has you in His palm, inscribed…more on that later..)
You are His song. Sing to Him. He loves you so much. Love Him back…
Pray on..Pray on..
