Nights have been especially hard for me lately. Since that is my reality for a while now, I thought it was time for a refresher for my brain. Ever notice that during the day, when you are busy, fears and worries seem almost to be silenced? I just keep going and the wolves stay back.
However, as I quiet my body for sleep, or in the middle of the night, the wolves attack once again. Being in physical pain has made it harder for me to calm. As I type, I see the fallacies that were formed over night. At night, I pay more attention to the pain and the thoughts, I give it more power. Thus the cycle begins.
On one hand, I tell myself, I have a right to be afraid. I list off all the things that are happening in my life. This morning on my walk I just walked and talked with the Lord, pouring out all my thoughts. It seems easier in the morning, doesn’t it? so here we go. Verses for the night. To keep in mind all day long.
Well, first I want to share lyrics from a song that has been on repeat.
Sometimes it’s days, sometimes it’s years (Oh-oh)
Some face a lifetime of fallen tears (Oh-oh)
But He’s in the darkness, He’s in the cold
Just like the mornin’, He always shows (He always shows)
Just like the morning, He always shows. Thank you, Lord. No matter what we face, night ends and morning comes.
“Sing to the Lord, O you His godly ones, And give thanks at the mention of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. [2 Cor 4:17] ¶As for me, in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.””

Night is almost over.
My morning walk reminds me of this very truth. I watch the sun rise every morning I’m out there. It’s beautiful. It’s different every day.
“¶There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, The holy dwelling places of the Most High. God is in the midst of her [His city], she will not be moved; God will help her when the morning dawns. The nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered and were moved; He raised His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold [our refuge, our high tower]. Selah.”
Psalms 46:4-7 AMP

“Therefore we do not become discouraged [spiritless, disappointed, or afraid]. Though our outer self is [progressively] wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day by day. For our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]! So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable.”
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 AMP

I am so caught up by the temporary, the physical. We all are! It is what we know. It is our experience. And it is counter-intuitive to train ourselves to think as Paul directs. I found this YouTube short that gave me a word picture of what God is asking us to do with our physical, temporary worries.
We are meant to outsource or give over our worries to the Lord. We are meant to transfer all our cares to Him. So, in the middle of the night, this is a picture I can carry. I hold tight to the promises that I share. I hold tight knowing that God is with me, He is for me and He will never leave me.
And He will not leave you.

Thank you, Cara, for this post. I, too, lie awake with a mind that won’t shut off and nagging pain. My mind circles between News on TV, Radio, or online and it creates potential situations as a result. Family issues and other things fight for my attention. Praise God for never leaving me, and praise Him for His Word.
I will be praying for you, and thanking God for you.
Amen! He is with us!!
