When my kid were little, there was a question i asked to get to the bottom of a mess left after playing, or a shower taken with towels and water covering the bathroom floor. Or dishes left. Who left this mess? The answer was usually deflected or nobody.
Whose job is it?
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody,
Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and
Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would
do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody
got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody
thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody
wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when
Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
Whose job is it?
I’m in the same place as yesterday, 1 John 5. John is very clear about who is the One. He is also clear about the one who believes and the one who does not. Let’s look together. Again. Lol
“And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? Jesus Christ — He is the One who came by water and blood, not by water only, but by water and by blood. And the Spirit is the One who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. the Spirit, the water, and the blood — and these three are in agreement. If we accept the testimony of men, God’s testimony is greater, because it is God’s testimony that He has given about His Son. (The one who believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him. The one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about His Son.) And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn’t have the Son of God does not have life.”

Let’s first separate the ones. A list…
Who is the one who conquers (overcomes) the world? The one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. (Vs. 5) Repeated again in vs 10 with the addition of testimony (see yesterday’s Testimony). The testimony is within us when we believe. The one who has the Son has life. (Vs.12) We have this hope, friends. We know that Jesus is the Son. We can trust.
Another one…
The one who does not believe. (Vs. 10). We make God a liar when we do not believe. A harsh statement for sure, but think with me of the ramifications of doubt and uncertainty. When the soundtrack of my mind echoes doubt and no way outs, I am not trusting that God will provide. He will move. He will be here. We have this testimony and we choose each day whom we will serve. Each day, I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. This is life, friends. We choose life in the Son of God.
Another One…
Sunday school answer here. It’s Jesus. Jesus is the one who came by water and blood. Water testifies to Jesus’ baptism. Blood testifies to the sacrifice. God spoke in Jesus’ baptism. This is my Son. God was silent in the blood.
Another one…
The Spirit is the one who testifies, and keep in mind, the Spirit is truth. (Vs. 6) And the Spirit is within us. He groans on our behalf when we do not have the words. (Romans 8:26-27) He speaks truth to our hearts, may I quiet myself to hear. May I allow truth to be spoken over my heart, over my day, over all that I face today.
Jesus is the One. May I live my life testifying to his life within me. May I be the one who believes. I choose life.
