In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock.Then an angel of the lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. Luke 2;8-9
In a sweet twist of grace, God brings his news to the men and women who cared for the sheep. These were not simple sheep, these were probably for the sacrifice. Consider this for a moment, these shepherds were watching of the lambs to momentarily take sin away. This news would rock the world. Tonight, the angel comes. The angel gives the best birth announcement ever given. Ever.
But the angel said to the, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger.’
Angel. Notice in most circumstances when an angel visits, his first words are: do not be afraid. Seeing one angel would be terrifying. Nobody can really describe angels well, hence, Precious Moments. We long to know the appearance of angels. they are messengers. They are not to be worshiped or adored. This angel brought the announcement.
Jesus, the Messiah, is here.
Go look for him. You will know.
One other thing, imagine how dark it must have been on that hill. Utter darkness. And then, BAM. There was light that broke through the complete darkness.
And honestly, isn’t that what Jesus has done? He broke through. He came through. And he is the light of the world. He deserves our worship. He deserves our praise. He chose to come. He chose to shatter the darkness.
Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying; Glory to god in the highest, and peace on earth to people he favors!
Glory.
We have his favor, friends. We have his presence. He have his peace. reach toward the truth today.
