On most days, you can find my Ella and I walking around Central Park in our neighborhood. I appreciate the peace and beauty of the space. Starburst and I have slowed down, she loves to lay in the shade of the huge trees. I love when there is a wind, any wind, on those hot days. Today, I’m studying the Prince of Peace, cross references and asking the Holy Spirit to move in this time.
“The wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the goat. the calf, the young lion, and the fattened calf will be together, and a child will lead them. The cow and the bear will graze, their young ones will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like cattle. An infant will play beside the cobra’s pit, and a toddler will put his hand into a snake’s den. They will not harm or destroy each other on my entire holy mountain, for the land will be as full of the knowledge of the LORD as the sea is filled with water.”
Isaiah 11:6-9
Supernatural peace from the presence of the King.
“But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds.”
Isaiah 53:5
Jesus took our rebellion, iniquities and punishment upon himself. We are healed. I am whole. I am at peace because of his sacrifice.
“He will stand and shepherd them in the strength of the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD his God. They will live securely, for then his greatness will extend to the ends of the earth. He will be their peace. When Assyria invades our land, when it marches against our fortresses, we will raise against it seven shepherds, even eight leaders of men.
Micah 5:4-5
Security. This is something we crave. We crave to have enough money in our bank account. We crave health. We crave stable governments. We crave so many things that are not the LORD. I need to crave the strength of the LORD. My security is not found in any of the above things. My security is found in the greatness of our God. He is my peace. No matter what circumstances, trials, or whatever, my peace is found in Him.
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors!”
Luke 2:14
The angels announcing Jesus’ birth to the shepherds. Peace is a person, and it is Jesus. He brings the peace. He is our peace. Welcome Jesus into all the spaces of my heart today.
“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be trouble or fearful.”
John 14:27
The disciples were freaked OUT. Jesus, knowing his time had come, speaks peace over his beloved. He leaves his peace. He gives his peace. The world offers no lasting peace. So, because he is the author of peace, he can declare, ‘Do not let your heart be troubled or fearful.’ No matter what life presents today.
“He [Peter] sent the message to the Israelites, proclaiming the good news of peace through Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all.”
Acts 10:36
Jesus is the only way to peace. I can find no other peace. I have to choose to rest in Jesus. I keep saying the same thing, but honestly, my heart needs to hear it. Maybe yours does too.
“Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have also obtained access through him, by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only that, we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Romans 5:1-5
Here comes a list. Haha
- We are declared righteous by FAITH
- We have peace with God through Jesus
- We have access through him BY FAITH into this grace
- We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God
- We rejoice in our afflictions BECAUSE afflictions produce endurance
- Endurance produces proven character
- Proven character produces HOPE, this will not disappoint
- God’s love poured out in our hearts, through the Spirit given to us
“That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting our trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.”
2 Corinthians 5:19
In Christ. What a statement. Through Christ, God reconciled the world to himself. We are to tell the world of this message of Christ and reconciliation.
“For he is our peace, who made both groups one and tore down the dividing wall of hostility. In his flesh, he made of no effect the law consisting of commands and expressed in regulations so that he might create in himself one new man from the two, resulting in peace. He did this so that he might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross by which he put the hostility to death. He came and proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.”
Ephesians 2:14-17
He is our peace. He is the one that brings us together. Christ did it all. Resulting in peace. We are reconciled as one body. He came proclaiming peace.
“…and through him to reconcile everything to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”
Colossians 1:19
His blood made a way for our peace. Reconciliation.
“Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus—the great Shepherd of the sheep—through the blood of the everlasting covenant…”
Hebrews 13:20
He is my Shepherd. He is great. He gave his blood and we are saved. Come to him today. Let his word wash over you and remind you. You are covered by the blood.
