Good morning, beloved,
Hospitals are amazing places to me. They are hotbeds of emotions and we, as humans, are on the brink of emotion peaks at hospitals. We are going in for tests, we are waiting for loved ones who are in for tests, we are waiting for the results of tests, waiting to see if meds are helping, we stand on the brink.
Yesterday, my husband walked into that waiting hotbed. An earlier MRI had said, cyst in the pineal gland of the brain.
As I waited for Joshua, I was ushered into an appointment with a young Momma whose baby was in a test. She was waiting. She poured out her story to me. Her lovie was born with her intestines outside of her body. She was fighting for her life. Yet, her brain, her heart, so many other things were stable! This Momma was all alone, family couldn’t come with her. Her husband, daddy had to work. As I walked with this Momma, I walked and grieved and hoped and prayed and then as I knew she needed to walk one way and me another…the Holy Spirit gently asked her if I could pray and then we prayed. And we held her.
The neurosurgeon walked in, held out his hand to Joshua and said I have boring news. I began whispering praises to God! The doctor smiled at me. The MRI shows a very boring, very normal Pineal gland. WOOOHOO! So, unless we have any other business, I don’t treat boring. I have waiting a 32-year-old man who has an orange size Pineal cyst I will be removing this Thursday…joy deflated…He looked at us. Go, live your lives. I don’t need to see you anymore!
So grateful, so thankful. We just held hands and thanked the Lord. Thank You Lord.
2 Samuel 22:
50 For this I will give thanks and extol You, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing praises to Your name.
51 He is a Tower of salvation and great deliverance to His king, and shows loving-kindness to His anointed, to David and his offspring forever.
We left..for the day. We’ll be back on Thursday as we try to figure out why he is having such terrible headaches. Yet, we take one step at a time. I was listening to Chris Fabry on the way home. He had such a great perspective. Did you eat lunch? Did you eat breakfast? Do you have electricity? Water? Give thanks for what you do have. Have joy for what you have. Do not focus on what you do not have. Keep your focus on what you do have. Here I am, Lord. Knees to the earth.
Okay, back to Sermon on the Mount and as we consider the Sermon, I’m again back to context and looking at the chapters before Matthew 5.
Matthew 1-This looks at the genealogy of Jesus…through, most likely Joseph, through the line of Judah taking us through Joseph’s decision, prompted by the Angel, to not divorce his Mary. 🙂
Matthew 2-This chapter begins with the story of the wise men and their search for the child..Herod’s (crazy) search for the infant king that could replace him, and the prophecies that are fulfilled…
Matthew 3-We are introduced to John the Baptist, his teaching, he is introduced to Jesus, he baptizes Jesus and we see the Trinity..oh, blessing! oh, delight! lifted hands!
Matthew 4-Jesus is in the desert for 40 days, Satan tempts..Jesus examples spiritual warfare for us with using the sword of the Spirit against the tempter, Jesus begins His ministry as John (his cousin) is arrested, Jesus begins to call His disciples…
For my purpose right now..I’ve hightlighted and just included the verses that give me places so I can consult my map to see where Jesus traveled. If you want to mark your Bible, you can double underline in green. (I skipped verses..)
Matthew 4:
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested and put in prison, He withdrew into Galilee.
13 And leaving Nazareth, He went and dwelt in Capernaum by the sea, in the country of Zebulun and Naphtali—
15 The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, in the [h]way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles [of the[i]peoples who are not of Israel]—
23 And He went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news (Gospel) of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every weakness and infirmity among the people.
25 And great crowds joined and accompanied Him about, coming from Galilee and Decapolis [the district of the ten cities east of the Sea of Galilee] and Jerusalem and Judea and from the other [the east] side of the Jordan.
Basically, the people are coming from all over the place to hear Jesus! They are flocking to hear the teacher and He would say:
Matthew 4:
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, [k]crying out, Repent ([l]change your mind for the better, heartily amend your ways, with abhorrence of your past sins), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
23 And He went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news (Gospel) of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every weakness and infirmity among the people.
24 So the report of Him spread throughout all Syria, and they brought Him all who were sick, those afflicted with various diseases and torments, those under the power of demons, and epileptics, and paralyzed people, and He healed them.
The kingdom of heaven…repent…allow me to highlight this as well…
Matthew 3:
In those days there appeared John the Baptist, preaching in the Wilderness (Desert) of Judea
2 And saying, Repent ([a]think differently; change your mind, regretting your sins and changing your conduct), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 This is he who was mentioned by the prophet Isaiah when he said, The voice of one crying in the wilderness (shouting in the desert), Prepare the road for the Lord, make His highways straight (level, [b]direct).
John came first, he was the one, the voice crying first preparing the way for Jesus…repent! Turn back, think differently, change your mind, regret your sins, change your conduct..and then as John was arrested, Jesus took the banner and carried forth Repent! Yet, God gave John a beautiful gift, didn’t He? He baptized God’s son..John saw the Trinity..in the water. Breathtaking…
What does repentance “fruit” look like in my life? In your life?
More of the definition from the blb.org: to change one’s mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one’s past sins..
I believe I need to think on that today, how about you?
Pray on, beloved. Pray on.
