Yesterday was one of those days. Ever had one? I was losing my temper..having fits about how the kids were talking to me and this morning as I walked i realized how much my kids sound like me when I, at times, talk to my Heavenly Father. I find there is quite a difference in my moment to moment prayers when I have quenched the Spirit in my heart with sin. Rather, when I have a focus on a verse I am memorizing and I repeat that before I react to the stimuli…and know the Spirit is guiding and directing me..my response is so much calmer. Spiritual growth..sometimes I feel so weak and heavy laden. And yet calls us to keep striving towards the goal. To continue in my relationship, to carry on and I want to tell you..better is one day in His courts, than a thousand anywhere else. So here is my hearts cry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-afZJ9_TIM
The prayer verse is Philippians 3:15 but you know me by now I will give you the verses around it. 🙂
Philippians 3: 12Not that I have now attained [this ideal], or have already been made perfect (of “accomplishing”, of “bringing to completeness,” ) but I press on to lay hold of (grasp)(with a beneficial effect, as of “laying hold” of the righteousness which is of faith, Rom 9:30 (not there a matter of attainment, as in the Eng. versions, but of appropriation); of the obtaining of a prize, 1Cr 9:24 (RV, “attain”); of the Apostle’s desire “to apprehend,” or “lay hold of,” that for which he was apprehended by Christ, ) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own.
13I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,
14I press on toward the goal (primarily, “a watcher” (from skopeo, “to look at;” Eng., “scope”), denotes “a mark on which to fix the eye,” and is used metaphorically of an aim or object in Phl 3:14, RV, “goal” (AV, “mark”). )to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.
15So let those [of us] who are spiritually mature ((a) primarily of physical development, then, with ethical import, “fully grown, mature,” 1Cr 2:6; 14:20 (“men;” marg., “of full age”); Eph 4:13; Phl 3:15; Col 1:28; 4:12; in Hbr 5:14, RV, “fullgrown” (marg., “perfect”), AV, “of full age” (marg., “perfect”); and full-grown have this mind and hold these convictions; and if in any respect you have a different attitude of mind, God will make that clear to you also.
16Only let us hold true to what we have already attained and walk and order our lives by that.
17Brethren, together follow my example and observe those who live after the pattern we have set for you.
To finish, today is the day that Jim Elliot gave his life for cause of Christ. He willingly offered up his life to the love of his life. It was worth everything to him to finish well. Here is a short devo on him..Elisabeth’s comments are priceless to me:
