The heat in our house was on the fritz and we would wake up and be freezing. It was sixty degrees in the house. It is so weird to me that I love sixty degree weather in the fall and spring, but in my house, in the middle of winter? Nope. Not having it. The HVAC guy came and fixed our heat. As I stare out my windows, I am grateful for the protection I have from the frigid weather.
In a devotional I’m reading, the author brought up this Psalm 27 and the word that blessed her was stronghold. Let me define it for you.
misgâb, mis-gawb'; from H7682; properly, a cliff (or other lofty or inaccessible place); abstractly, altitude; figuratively, a refuge; Misgab, a place in Moab:—defence, high fort (tower), refuge, Misgab.
Strong’s
“The Lord is my light and my salvation— Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the refuge and fortress of my life— Whom shall I dread?”
Psalms 27:1 AMP
David declares and reminds who His God has been and will always be. God is my light. Think of the darkest place you have ever been. Then remember the difference a light makes. It transforms the space. Light guides us, helps us get our bearings, gives us the ability to read.
God is my salvation. My deliverance. My way through this life is built on the knowledge that he is actively saving me. in this past year, the ways God has delivered me. How he has moved me, taught me and yes, delivered me.
Whom shall i fear? My mind can wander and wonder. I can spiral downwards in fear, but if I really think this through, God has always been my refuge and stronghold. That requires mind shift. Every time I begin to fear, I want to have some verses like this one around me.
“The Lord also will be a refuge and a stronghold for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble; And those who know Your name [who have experienced Your precious mercy] will put their confident trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not abandoned those who seek You.”
Psalms 9:9-10 AMP
This I know and declare with David. You are my refuge in times of trouble. You are with me. I do know your name, I have experienced your precious mercy. So, I take a deep breath and remember, there is a name that is above every name. I can confidently put my trust in you. You will never leave me nor forsake me.
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and the One who rescues me; My God, my rock and strength in whom I trust and take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower—my stronghold.”
Psalms 18:2 AMP
Here’s what stand out to me in these few verses. I can believe him at his word. Jesus is the WORD. I can take him at his word and believe.
He’s my firm foundation. He’s my protection. He’s my rescuer. he’s my strength and comfort. He’s my shield. I can trust him at his word. He is faithful and he will do it.
I trust him at his word.
