1D
Recently, my daughter and I watched a 1D concert on YouTube, a perfect environment for me to observe. I’ve seen videos of fans of the Beatles, Monkeys and Elvis and quite honestly, the crying, screaming and fainting hasn’t changed much. Watching concerts of a favorite band, truly, is a full body experience.
Psalm 119:33-40
As we continue on in Psalm 119, David asks the Lord to “teach, to help”. He understands what we need to grasp. Following God is not a just activity. What I mean is, we do not just follow him with our hearts, or our minds, or our bodies.
- “Follow it with all my heart..” vs.34
- “Stay on the path of your commands..”vs.35
- “Turn my heart to your decrees..”vs.36
- “Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless..”vs.37
- “Turn away the disgrace I dread..”vs.39
We are actively involved in following the Lord, and friends, this not only keeps us focused, but gives us life. David confirms this in verses 37 and 40. The word that God gives brings life. When we find ourselves consumed by fear and cycling thoughts, let us come back to these words.
Words
The Lord’s love is faithful. This is David’s declaration. He is a God of deliverance. He proclaims it. The word of the Lord, thanks be to God.
David’s enemies have thrown words against him. Used words as tools of harm. Here is a truth we can rest upon. We can trust upon God’s word. (vs.42) How can we bring God’s word close?
Let’s make a list from this section.
- we can trust (vs. 42)
- keep in mouth (vs. 43)
- hope in (vs. 43)
- always obey (vs. 44)
- study (vs. 45)
- will speak (vs. 46)
- delight (vs. 47)
- lift up my hands (vs. 48)
- meditate (vs. 48)
We have a call on our lives. Hold the word of God close, especially when the words of those around us become weapons. When friends disappoint, when the enemy’s voice rages, turn your whole body to the sword of the Spirit.
Seriously.
