We had very strong winds recently that caught our front screen door and bent it. I realized, a little too late, how much that has helped us keep Luna from bolting out. She got out three times recently. The first time I didn’t realize she was out and was busy in the kitchen. I heard her barking and saw her near the street on our property, barking. Someone dared walk past our house with a dog. She stays close when she runs, but wouldn’t it be smarter to stay in our yard? No cars. No other animals. No other people. I question her thinking. Hahah.
In Proverbs 8 today, the author speaks of wisdom’s appeal. How she calls out to us. How she was there at the “beginning of creation” Proverbs 8:22 Wisdom was a part of creation. I encourage you to read this chapter. It also reminds me of Psalm 139, the foundations of the earth. God is everywhere, wisdom can be found, and we are known.
And here’s the thing, there is such comfort in knowing each of these truths. I was also in 2 Timothy 2 today and the echoes of the Proverbs and Psalms reverberate in Paul’s letter to Timothy. Underlying every word Paul writes is an encouragement to move towards wisdom.
“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”
2 Timothy 2:1-3 NASB1995
The things…you know that is his teaching and counsel. Wisdom. Faithful men and women are grounded in truth.
Today, as we awake to the knowledge of new leadership, let us spur one another on to wisdom.
“A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding.”
Proverbs 14:6 NASB1995
Let us have understanding in our words and actions.
“He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm.”
Proverbs 13:20 NASB1995
Choose today to walk with the wise. Surround yourself with people who do the same. Encourage one another. Love one another. I’ll end today with this from Philippians.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
Philippians 4:6-8 NASB1995
