Warning: Luna story. We go for daily walks and I will be the first to admit that the “making sure the dog walks next to you” bit of training…may have gone by the wayside. Yesterday, we both were surprised to see that she is fast enough to bump into a squirrel. The squirrel was also quite startled. Yet, now I know. And maybe it’s time to start on some formal training for our walks. Ahem.
She is always looking for bunnies, birds and squirrels. Her whole body is on the alert. Always. In fact, her favorite thing to do is stop abruptly when she sees the aforementioned. Her eyes are on the prey, which just makes me laugh, I really don’t think she’d know what to do AFTER she caught one. The bump really doesn’t count. Haha.
Her eyes lead her little body to turn, stop, allow dragging by me. She knows what she wants.
As I have said previously, I’m a bit envious of her drive and passion. Haha. I think it is very easy for me to put my eyes on the storm in front of me, allowing myself to stop, turn, allow myself to be dragged in the emotions and fears. Somehow I think that this will bring relief. If I come up with the right solution, or say the right thing, or do SOMETHING. I have plans especially in the middle of the night.
I just realized my shoulders were up by my ears.
In the middle of the night there did come some fruit. I was speaking Scripture to my heart, Matthew 6, to be exact. And I had a Spirit led thought.
Jesus tellls us to not worry about what you will eat, drink or wear for clothing.
“Therefore do not worry or be anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted), saying, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ For the [pagan] Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; [but do not worry,] for your heavenly Father knows that you need them.”

Bring me here over and over. How many times does Jesus, while on earth, show his disciples to not trust their eyes? Stories wash over me. Over and over. Peter fishing in the very beginning of his life with Jesus(Luke 5:1-11). Then fishing again, as they waited for Jesus after he had died(John 21). Both times Peter was taught to trust. Or, what about the little girl who had died? Jesus came and told the crowds, she is not dead, only sleeping. And. They. Laughed. (Mark 5:21-43)
When the woman with the body ravaged by disease and blood loss sees Jesus and declares, “If I JUST touch his CLOTHES, I will be healed.” (Mark 5:28) She saw the Messiah and believed. She trusted. Logically, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. She knew her desperate need. She laid her eyes on the one who could fill.
Coming back to our basic needs according to Jesus in Matthew 6, food, water, clothing. And here’s the thought that is sticking with me:
Jesus calls himself our living bread.
“Jesus replied to them, “I am the Bread of Life. The one who comes to Me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in Me [as Savior] will never be thirsty [for that one will be sustained spiritually]. But as I told you, you have seen Me and still you do not believe. All that My Father gives Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out [I will never, never reject anyone who follows Me].”
John 6:35-37 AMP

Jesus says to any who are thirsty:
“Now on the last and most important day of the feast, Jesus stood and called out [in a loud voice], “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water.’ ” [Is 58:11; John 4:14] But He was speaking of the [Holy] Spirit, whom those who believed in Him [as Savior] were to receive afterward. The Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor).”

Jesus says we can trust him for our daily needs. Friend, Jesus is our daily need. So all those beautiful words in Matthew 6 that I shared earlier come to meet our Savior who declares, I am your bread. I am your water.
Every now and then, I get this little thrill in my heart. I can’t wait to see how God answers my heartfelt cries and concerns. He will answer. He will provide.
So, as I wait, I will adhere to, trust in, and rely on Jesus. He really does have all we will ever need.
He is with me.
