Today is one of those days, awake from the pain most of the night. Honestly, friend, I share this because my pain is physical but your pain may be emotional or based on circumstances that swirl about you without your control. Or it could be a combination of all. Another pain is the knowledge that we fall, we disappoint, we get snarled in difficult people, difficult circumstances. Life.
I’ll be honest and tell you again, deciding to walk through the questions of Jesus has been more challenging than I ever thought. It’s a good challenge, I’m thinking and processing, but it’s a challenge nonetheless. having to face these questions, having to deal with the words of Jesus, confronts me.
““Therefore, don’t be afraid of them, since there is nothing covered that won’t be uncovered and nothing hidden that won’t be made known. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops. Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So don’t be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Matthew 10:26-31 HCSB

First, who’s them? Jesus has just told them that they are sheep among wolves. The truth has come and his name is Jesus. So, Jesus is addressing the fear that naturally comes after such a warning. Rather, I think of this like a parent putting their hands on their child’s face and looking into their eyes. Prompting the child to do the same. Don’t look other places, look at me, your parent. Friend, this is what Jesus is doing right here.
Don’t be afraid. Don’t worry about your body. Don’t worry about what you will say. Keep your eyes on me. And when you begin to lose sight of Jesus, remember the sparrow. You have infinitely more worth than the sparrow. This is a short one today, because I attach Carlos Whittaker’s Instagram post on your worth. listen up.
Our worth in God’s eyes, our value. He will answer.
